Mayor DeStefano Orders Mandatory Evacuation of Morris Cove
(8/27/2011) King Robinson School to be used as Evacuation Center (NOT HILLHOUSE FIELD HOUSE)
New Haven - Given the projected severity of Hurricane Irene and its potential impact on New Haven, the City is now calling for the mandatory evacuation of the areas colored in yellow (see attached), effective immediately.
The following Morris Cove streets are under a mandatory evacuation order:
Anthony Drive
Alden St
Alfred Street
Arden Street
Beecher Street
Bristol Street
Cart Street
Concord Street (South of Burr)
Cove Street
Dean Street
Doty Street
Douglass Street
Eden Street
Elmer Elmer
Florence Street
Ira Street
Kirkham Street
Lighthouse Point Road
Mansion Street
Marion Street
Meadowview Street
Morris Cove Road
Morris Cswy
Myron Street
Nelson Street
Parker Place
Shorham Street
South End Road
Townsend (South of Burr)
Uriah Street
Residents of these areas should evacuate by 7:30 p.m. If residents of these areas have family members elsewhere in the City or State that will not be as severely impacted by the storm, we urge them to go there.
The City does have emergency shelters set up in two locations around the City: Jepson School, 15 Lexington Avenue and King-Robinson School, 154 Fournier Street. We will accommodate as many people as possible.
Residents who do not comply with the evacuation will be putting themselves and their families at risk.
